Every PC or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level program which interacts with the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, together with any applications that are installed on your system. Any program input through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a web server, each and every application runs within the parameters defined by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This is valid for both standard Internet site scripts and server-side software such as a media server. In case a virtual server is created on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, named guest OS and host OS, so that you can set up a different software environment on a single machine.

Multiple OS in VPS Hosting

Our virtual private server plans feature three Linux distributions that you can pick from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Apart from being cost-free, the OSs are very stable and safe and the primary reason to offer you the 3 of them is to make sure that you'll be able to run each application that you would like, as different pieces of software have different requirements regarding the environment they work on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a large community of developers who have produced many hundreds of software packages which you can set up and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you pick, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to take care of your web hosting content. Needless to say, in case you decide that you need a different OS, we could always re-install the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the OS for optimum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Web Hosting

If you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page because we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on your machine as different apps may have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and enjoy a stable and secure hosting service. Depending on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you've selected in the beginning doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you'd like to run. We can also update your OS routinely to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
